For the past 12+ years, Red’s Tree Services has served the Memphis and Midsouth areas with exceptional work and customer service. Proudly, we have created safe, beautiful lawns and yards for residential and commercial businesses alike. We know the importance of a great first impression for a company or home, and that starts with the property’s curb appeal! At Red’s Tree Services, we can take fantastic care of your trees (even if it means removing them), but who are we?

The Team

Our co-founders, Kevin Smith and David Pace, are passionate about tree care. Smith and Pace have been in the tree business since they were young, fascinated by the gorgeous, gentle giants around them.

Smith credits his certified arborist father as the man who inspired him to join the tree business. He has many vivid memories of watching his father climb trees and get to work, bringing his client’s needs and wants to live in an aesthetically pleasing yet safe design. With his guidance, Smith learned the ins and outs of customer service, business operations, and tree care. Over the years, Smith has seen it all and can confidently tackle any situation you throw at him.

On the contrary, Pace is teaching his son about trees and landscaping! Pace has always loved being involved in nature, from dragging brush around as a kid to learning about all the various needs of different trees as he aged. Eventually, he learned all there was to know about tree services and is thrilled to get that pass knowledge on to the next generation. Throughout his many years of research and experience, like Smith, Pace has seen it all and can handle your tree service needs with ease.

Our Standards

Because of their combined 45+ years of experience, Smith and Pace have high expectations of themselves. They learned early on that there are no hacks or shortcuts if they want to say, “Job well done.” The pair knows how to appropriately asses a situation, do the job, and how the site should look upon completion.

Red’s Tree Services was built on integrity, trust, fair prices, and unbeatable services. We work tirelessly every day to uphold those standards. The Memphis and Midsouth communities rely on us to safely and efficiently perform tree services to protect their homes, businesses, and families, and we don’t take that responsibility lightly. Everyone deserves a place to feel safe, create memories, and achieve their professional dreams while enjoying the view. We aim to exceed your expectations tenfold every time you call us.

Our Services

No matter your arborist needs, Red’s Tree Services has got you covered. You’ll never need to dial another tree service again!

Removal

Sometimes, a tree is too close to your house, either damaging your roof or posing a risk of potential damage. Sometimes, the tree’s roots are damaging to your house’s structure or are entangling themselves in underground powerlines. Maybe the tree branches are damaging the above-ground powerlines. Perhaps the tree is dead, seems ready to split in two, is infected with disease or bugs (like termites), or just ruins the view and overshades your property. Or it could be hiding your business from potential customers or damaging clients’ cars parked underneath. Maybe you have a tree stump that does not match your lawn aesthetic or is infected. Maybe you are ready for a change and a new tree.

Whatever the reason you want to remove a tree from your yard or commercial property, we’ve got you covered. We have the equipment (like our crane for large tree removals) and know-how to remove the plant in as little as a few hours.

Care

If you’re thinking, “Well, I don’t need my tree removed. I only need it cared for every once in a while,” we can do that too!

Trees offer a lot to your yard. Shade, a place for wildlife to thrive, a picturesque view, and curb appeal are just some benefits of a healthy tree. Though gorgeous, trees require some TLC to protect you, your loved ones, and your physical assets!

At Red’s Tree Services, we can:

  • Trim and prune your tree for a new look, to remove areas of concern, or to prevent disease from spreading.
  • Fertilize the deep roots of your tree to improve your tree’s health and increase its lifespan.
  • Thin the canopy and reduce the weight of the tree to allow more light and wind to travel through the branches and reduce the risk of the tree falling.
  • Clean and remove dead wood from trees to improve your tree’s health and aesthetic.
  • Also, perform most or all of our services on shrubs.

Storm & Emergency

Whether you are new to the Midsouth or a lifelong inhabitant, you know we can have unpredictable weather conditions. Tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, strong winds, and more can destroy trees, harming your structures, cars, and other necessities like powerlines.

Fortunately, we have 24-hour emergency tree removal services! We’re always available and equipped to help you quickly move past mother nature’s slightly inconvenient gifts of trees and their parts being in places we would prefer they weren’t.

A Guide to Tree Relocation Services in Portland, OR

Jump to: Frequently Asked Questions About Tree Relocation, How Much To Relocate a Tree?, Contact A Tree Moving Company Near You

Much like a job, a family, or even your favorite sports team, trees can be uprooted and safely relocated. Typical reasons for tree relocation are when they grow too close to buildings or within areas that don’t provide enough sunlight. Tree relocation involves the careful process of uprooting a tree from its current location and transplanting it to a new site. This practice is often undertaken to preserve valuable trees, create better landscaping arrangements, or accommodate construction projects. While tree relocation can be an effective solution, it requires careful planning, expertise, and consideration of various factors to ensure the successful establishment and long-term health of the transplanted tree. In this guide, we will explore the essentials of tree relocation, including the best practices, tree relocation costs, common challenges, and important considerations to help you make informed decisions about relocating trees.

Frequently Asked Questions About Tree Relocation in Portland, OR: Guidelines and Limitations

During tree relocation, arborists and tree care professionals employ various techniques to minimize root damage and provide the necessary care throughout the process. Factors such as the size and age of the tree, soil conditions, weather, and the distance of the relocation all play crucial roles in determining the feasibility and success of the operation. Portland’s tree code includes measures that preserve trees and ensure new ones are planted when others are moved. It can get tricky when acquiring permits and determining when they’re necessary. We’ve highlighted some of the most important points below:

  • Street trees need a permit. A street tree is when 50% of the tree’s trunk is in the public’s right of way. If this is the case, you’ll absolutely need a permit to relocate it.
  • Yard trees may require a permit. Certain zoning exceptions exist, and permits may not always be required. Permits are typically granted for trees that are dead or dying. You’ll need a permit if the tree’s diameter is over 12 inches.  How to measure tree diameter: A tree’s diameter measurement begins 4.5 feet off the ground. Wrap a measuring tape around the trunk and divide the number by 3.14.
  • Replanting afterward. Once a tree is removed, it’s often required to plant a new one in its stead. If replanting is not feasible, then a mitigation fee might be applied (this keeps the city’s tree canopies in balance). We can let you know if a mitigation plan is required and can assist with helping you set one up.
  • Public safety reigns supreme. If a tree poses a public safety concern, then a permit for removal will be granted.
  • Heed the permits. Portland does not joke with its fines. Removing a tree without a permit could result in a fine up to $1,000–or $100 per inch in tree diameter.

If permits do not require a city-led inspection, they can typically be issued within 5 business days. If your situation requires an inspection, you might wait 3-4 weeks after submitting the application. This waiting period could depend on the urgency of your case as well as the inspection team’s current workload.

How Much To Relocate a Tree?

Tree-Location-ServicesWhen you’re ready to relocate your tree, it’s important to consider the tree relocation cost. Determining the tree relocation cost will rely on several factors, including:

  • Tree size: Cost varies based on tree height as well as crown spread. You can perform the height measurement yourself, or use this app. For a ballpark number—if the tree is taller than one story, it will likely cost over $1,000 for tree removal. Tree crown measurement is a bit more difficult to figure out—we are happy to visit your property to help measure.
  • Account for overhang: If a tree is within 10 feet of your home, it will likely cost upwards of $2,000 to remove (this accounts for potential overhang over your home).
  • Difficulty of removal: Is the tree in the front or back yard? Is it on flat ground or an incline? These can raise or lower the cost. Dead or sick trees typically cost more than healthy ones, as they are more difficult to remove.
  • Time of year: Warmer months understandably mean heavier business for tree removal companies—so if you wait until “off-season”, i.e. winter, you may get a reduced cost.

It’s best to speak with a tree transplanting company when trying to determine the tree relocation cost.

Tree Relocation is Entirely Possible

By relocating a tree, it can continue to thrive in a new environment, contributing to the beauty and environmental benefits of the area. Additionally, tree relocation can help preserve the historical significance of mature trees or allow for the implementation of new landscaping designs.

However, it is important to note that tree relocation is not without its challenges. It requires thorough assessment, proper timing, and adherence to local regulations and permits. Each tree species may have different tolerance levels for transplanting, and considerations such as post-relocation care, irrigation, and monitoring are essential for the tree’s survival.

If tree relocation is something you are considering we’d be happy to answer any of your tree relocation questions.

Why Stump Removal is Necessary for the Health of Your Yard

Stump removal is the process of removing the remaining portion of a tree after it has been cut down. While it may seem like an optional step, stump removal is necessary for the health of your yard. Here are some reasons why:

Tree stump in yard

Stumps Can be Hazardous to Your Yard

Stumps that are left behind can pose a tripping hazard for anyone walking or playing in the yard. Additionally, stumps can damage lawn mowers and other equipment, leading to costly repairs. Finally, stumps can attract insects and other pests, which can cause damage to nearby trees and plants.

Stumps Can Inhibit New Growth

Stumps left behind can prevent new trees or plants from growing in the same location. This is because stumps can cause root rot in nearby trees, preventing them from accessing the nutrients they need to grow properly. Furthermore, stumps can prevent proper soil aeration and nutrient distribution, making it difficult for new growth to thrive.

Stumps Can Be Unsightly

Stumps left in a yard can be an eyesore, detracting from the overall beauty of the yard. Additionally, stumps can make it difficult to landscape or design your yard in the way you want.

The Benefits of Stump Removal

Removing a stump can improve safety by eliminating tripping hazards and reducing the risk of equipment damage. It can also promote new growth and improve the health of nearby trees and plants by preventing root rot and allowing for proper soil aeration and nutrient distribution.

Finally, removing stumps can improve the overall appearance and usability of your yard, making it a more enjoyable space for you and your family.

By eliminating tripping hazards, promoting new growth, and improving the overall appearance and usability of your yard, stump removal is an important investment in the long-term health of your property. If you’re in need of stump removal services, be sure to contact a professional tree removal service for assistance.
